What is Flag Day?
Anyone? … Anyone? ….
We celebrate Flag Day on June 14 and it commemorates the adoption of the United States flag in 1777.
In 1916, it was officially proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson and in 1949 Congress established National Flag Day. However, it is not considered an official federal holiday.
The week of June 14 is National Flag Week and U.S.citizens are urged to proudly fly their American flags that entire week… if you don’t normally have it displayed. Many groups and organizations have parades or other events during this week to celebrate and honor “Old Glory”.
That’s the history lesson for today! Be sure to display your flag with pride on Flag Day and every other day!
