PARENTS

We have a variety of support possibilities for parents of those serving in the military.

Hearts for Heroes – Join our monthly support group which meets on the second Thursday of each month.  Click here for details.

Follow our blog about the life of a military parent.  Stop by the Comfy Couch Command where Marine Moms run the war. If you are the parent of someone who serves in our military then you already know about the battle within yourself to let go when it’s time for your children to leave the nest. It’s hard enough to let our children grow up, but letting them grow up in a war zone is a true life-changing phenomenon…..for US, the parents!

For parents of those living with the invisible wounds of war, PTSD and TBI, we encourage you to visit PACT-PTSD, a blog site which focuses specifically on the issues that involved parents of children with combat PTSD. We have found that many of the websites currently available are focused more on the needs of the veteran or the spouse of the one suffering with PTSD. With many troops being unmarried, they need to rely on a parent or another civilian advocate. As parents (and/or civilian advocates) we do not have the same rights to health care information and it is far more difficult to advocate for our injured child. We hope to build a network of support through information and one another. We hope that you will visit our page often, read our blog, and comment to let us know how you feel or what you are experiencing. We welcome guest bloggers. If you have a story to tell, please consider sharing it here. We can help one another only if we share our stories.

Sometimes we will cry, and often we will laugh. It’s all about learning to let go and keeping your “inner control freak” satisfied at the same time. We hope you will comment often and come along for this ride for which we were all drafted.

Invisible Wounds Family Support Group –  Do you have a loved one who has returned from combat with invisible wounds?  Are you at a loss as to how to deal with the “new normal” you are facing at home?  Join us for our bimonthly support group meetings.  Meetings will be held on the first and third Thursday nights of each month. Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, August 4, 2011.  Click here for more details.

Family members as well as veterans are welcome.  Childcare will be provided.
