What is Operation SEND Christmas

WHAT IS OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS ??

NOV 7, 2016

If you have attended this event before, you already know how much fun it is! If you haven’t, then you may be wondering what to expect. Operation SEND is what we call our care package assemblies because we Send Encouragement to our Nation’s Deployed.

OPERATION S.E.N.D. CHRISTMAS is just one of the projects that MILITARY MISSIONS undertakes each year, and it is definitely one of the biggest!… so big that we must use a location that will accommodate hundreds. As a matter of fact, we are predicting this year to be the largest yet!

There will be several activity tables so be sure to make it around to all of them. Also, be sure to stick around for the group “SHOUT OUT TO THE TROOPS”. It happens around 7pm. If you know someone who is currently deployed, feel free to make a poster board sign to hold up during the shout out. These shout outs will be recorded and emailed to the troops so they can hear and see how much love and support we are sending their way.

REGISTRATION – When you enter the building, please make your way to the registration tables. If you plan to make a monetary donation, please do so at this table. This year we are having a “Branch Challenge” to see which branch of the military gets the most designated donations. We will have a board on display to show which branch is “winning”. We all know that the rivalry between branches is FIERCE! So be sure to support your favorite! You can pre-register online and then you will only need to check in at the registration table.

DONATIONS – If you have care package items to donate, please bring them to this table. When entering through the front doors, it should be directly in front of you.

INFORMATION – If you have questions or would like to become a volunteer, please visit the info table. You can also sign up to receive our email newsletter here. If you know someone who is currently deployed and would like to receive a care package, please visit this table and add their name to our list. You will need their name, full address, and estimated return date.

ADOPT A HERO – If you have adopted a hero from our website, you can drop your hero’s box off at this table. It’s not too late to adopt! We will have some names available to pick from.

CARD WRITING TABLES – The kids will be allowed to create their own cards by drawing pictures and using a few stickers. The troops REALLY love getting the cards they make. The adults can write a special thank you note to the troops and let them know how much they are appreciated. If you have extra craft supplies like construction paper or stickers (patriotic or Christmas) that you would like to donate, please bring them along!

GIFT WRAPPING TABLES – We wrap some of the care package items with Christmas wrapping paper.

GOODIE BAGS – Shampoo, Personal Care, Candy, Snacks, and Drinks – At these tables, we will be filling Ziploc bags to be included in the care packages.

VETERAN BAGS – At this table, we will be filling several hundred appreciation bags that will be handed out to veterans at local VA facilities. This was a new event last year and it was a very popular station!

THANK YOU BANNERS – Large sheets of paper will be taped on the wall for you to draw or write on. These will then be placed into unit boxes and delivered to an entire unit of troops.

GENERAL STORE – We will have t-shirts and a few other items available for purchase. We accept cash, checks, or credit cards.

PHOTO BOOTH – Write a message to the troops and take a pic with your friends or family. We will be sharing these on our webpage so deployed men & women will be able to see how much they are appreciated.

We hope you will thoroughly enjoy your evening at our Operation S.E.N.D. Christmas care package assembly. None of this would be possible without YOUR help and support so we want to say THANKS to each and every one of you. Look forward to seeing you there!! You can REGISTER here.

OPSEND EASTER

Revisit the Past

Revisit Camp LejI recently had the honor and privilege of visiting the United States Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune, NC. My husband had been stationed there several years ago. He had many wonderful memories, but the last time he was there and the circumstances leading up to his departure had been heartbreaking and honestly devastating. The last time he was there, he went from preparing for his next deployment to being diagnosed with lymphoma cancer…

Hello From Afghanistan

As we head into the holiday weekend, please remember all those men and women that are deployed overseas. They are away from their family and friends and won’t be able to enjoy all the fun and food that might be planned. We recently received a very touching letter, and this seems like the perfect time to share it….

Hello Military Missions!

My name is Jeremiah and I am currently stationed in Bagram, Afghanistan. It is currently in the mid 100’s here in Afghanistan and unfortunately, the winds do not cool us down here, as they seem to actually make us more miserable and tend to make you walk around with irritated sandy red eyes.

We All Face Challenges

Atop the mountainMy husband doesn’t really enjoy accolades and he’ll tell you that he doesn’t handle compliments very well, to which I respond, “Get over it, because in this family you’re going to get both!” 🙂 This week my husband joined a group of 14 other combat veterans to participate in the Save a Warrior Project hosted here in Kentucky! For those of you who have not heard of this program, in a nutshell it is basically an awesome, tried & proven PTSD Detox program…

CHOOSE TO LOVE

Heart LoveLove is a powerful force. Truly, the most powerful force on the planet. It has caused many to do foolish and crazy things, but many others to do heroic, self-less and life changing acts.

There are countless accounts of wartime heroes who save the life or lives of their comrades in arms. Putting their own life in danger to protect or save the life of another. What would cause someone to make such a sacrifice?
